Appointments
Please phone (08) 8276 8933 for appointments during opening hours (go to "Contact Us"). If you have a complex problem that may require more time, please let the receptionist know, so that a longer consultation can be scheduled. This enables your doctor to better evaluate your problem and prevents inconvenience to other patients who may be kept waiting. Occasionally, emergency situations arise that must take precedence. Please be assured that the same quality attention and care would be given to your family if required. To avoid waiting, you are welcome to phone the medical centre before your appointment to check whether your doctor is running on time.
Each doctor keeps appointments open that can only be booked on the day (they cannot be prebooked). This prevents waiting times blowing out for urgent bookings. If you feel you need to be seen on the day ring at 8:00 as those bookings are usually gone by 8:10. We'll do everything possible to ensure you can be seen on the day but there is no guarantee this will be by your preferred doctor.

Referrals
Government regulations require doctors to write a new letter for every specialist referral, including private specialist annual appointments. In general, we cannot write the referral without a consultation, therefore please make an appointment for referrals.
Repeat Prescriptions
Patients are requested to make appointments for prescriptions. This is because it is in your interest to review your general health status while under treatment. There are good reasons why medications have a set number of repeats before new prescriptions need to be written.
Telephoning Your Doctor
The doctors will take phone calls relating to you and your family's health, and for simple pathology test results. If consulting, they will ring back at an appropriate time. Appointments are necessary for more complex problems and results.
Immunisations
The Colonel Light Medical Centre offers a full immunisation service. We perform routine childhood immunisations, tetanus, pneumonia and flu vaccines. Prescriptions are required for Hepatitis A and B vaccines and other vaccines including typhoid, cholera and the flu vaccine for healthy people under 65 years of age. The flu vaccine is free for those older than 65 years, and for those with chronic illnesses which include asthma, diabetes, heart disease and chronic lung conditions, along with people on medication that may impair their immune system. The pneumonia and shingles vaccines are also free if you are 65 years or older, and meeting eligible criteria.
Test Results
Patients are asked to make an appointment to follow up test results. Warfarin results (INRs) are usually conveyed per phone. Appointments are also required to discuss X-ray results.
General Practitioner Fees*
We are a mixed billing practice.
Fees relate to the complexity of the problem and the time required to formulate a management plan. If you feel you will need a longer appointment, please let one of our receptionists know. Your GP and the patients following your appointment will be most appreciative. Fees may apply for children under 16 years of age, pensioners, and concession card holders. Any queries or concerns, please speak to reception staff. An account with a gap payment is given to non-card holders for consultations. A $4 discount is offered for accounts paid at the time of the consultation. Workcover accounts are to be paid on the day of your consultation. Consideration is given to those with financial difficulties, or those requiring frequent appointments. We encourage you to discuss this with your doctor. A full set of fees is available at reception. Additional costs may apply for investigations, treatments, procedures and referrals. After hours fees are higher. |
